The Soverign is Missing

Sovereign Valis Citadel has gone missing!

The sovereign recently departed the City of Meltford on her capital ship, The Hope, destined for Otwick Town where she was due to take part in trade negotiations. Taking advantage of this Commodore Larcen Gilt secretly arranged for a group of pirates operating a vessel called The Emerald Dream to sink her ship. However, when the pirates realized who their target was they instead took the soverign prisoner, hoping to extort the Commodore. They are currently operating in and near Dry Rum Sanctuary. (Use the NPCs at this location as the ship's crew.) The sovereign is chained in the ship's brig.

During this crisis, The Five Families clamber for power.

In an effort to deflect suspicion, House Gilt is publicly supporting The Citidel Family during this time of crisis. However, Commodore Gilt has ordered his ships to hunt down and destroy The Emerald Dream.

Your party could engage in a number of adventures during this time. But they should be cautious. Helping one family is likely to provoke the ire of another.

Clandestine Communication

One of the heads of the families wishes to pass a secret message along to another. They commission the party to deliver a painting, without telling them a message is concealed within. This could be an issue if an agent of the Citadel Family catches them. The message reads:

We cannot allow the Citadels to cling to power. It's time we met privately to discuss a potential alliance.

Political Assassination

The Shadowmoore Family are taking advantage of the turmoil to take care of a few upstart nobles who are beginning to gain too much influence. Always on the lookout for new assassins to add to their network, if the party has obtained a reputation, they may offer them one or more of the following targets:

The golden rule when working with The Shadowmoores is that your activity can never be traced back to them. If the party fall foul of this, they will send the rest of their assassins after them to clean up.

Sink The Emerald Dream

If Commodore Gilt's ships fail and the party has access to their own vessel, he may in desperation ask them to deal with the matter. The Emerald Dream is a formidable pirate ship identifiable by its green painted hull. The Commodore can give the party their approximate location.

Save The Sovereign

If the party wish to save the Sovereign they will earn the respect and gratitude of the people of Ebrana, along with a handsome reward from The Citadel family.

Identifying the pirates and their location will be a difficult task. They will either have to uncover Commodore Gilt's plan, or find the information via other contacts familiar with the pirates in this area. The party's best bet at a rescue is to find the pirate crew while docked at Dry Rum Sanctuary, as if they engage them on the seas they risk the Sovereign being killed in the battle.

Should the party succeed in the rescue, they will still have to dodge Commodore Gilt's loyalists to get her back to Meltford safely.
