Records sound by cutting a grove in to a wet clay cylinder. Can also play the sound back. The sound loses much of it's depth, but is surprisingly audible. A single clay cylinder can contain 1 minute of sound. The cylinders are very fragile once made. The audio reproducer is powered by a small, yet noisy, steam engine that can be turned on and off at will. The engine can hold 1/4 of a pint of oil, which it consumes in 1 hour of operation. (See flask of oil in the SRD.) |
