Smiths

Smiths, or metal workers, are commonplace in Ataland. This is part due to the cheap and plentiful supply for metals from the dwarven mines.

Important Reminder

The stock and services of any given shop is ultimately up to you, the Game Master. The following is just a recommendation.

Blacksmiths

Blacksmiths have for sale items such as horse-shoes, nails and rivets, iron fencing, basic tools and small knifes. They can also be hired to perform repairs on weapons and armour or for the creation of bespoke metalworks.

Although capable of making weapons and armour blacksmiths don't unless specifically commissioned. Crafting an item takes one day per 5gp of the item cost. (e.g. A longsword would take 3 days, assuming the blacksmith's schedule is completely free.) See Downtime Activities, Crafting in the SRD for more information on the creation of items.

Blacksmiths buy old armour and weapons and they have a limited selection of refurbished items for sale. This inventory is left in the hands of the Game Master.

Specialists

Specialists smiths have built their business around production of specific items. Specialists perform the same functions as generic blacksmiths, and also have a selection of their specialty wares in stock.

Specialists also have one or two magical items for sale. The smith will not be willing to part with these unless they make a generous profit. This inventory is left in the hands of the Game Master.

Weaponsmiths

Weaponsmiths sell weapons as listed on the Weapons Table in the SRD. Weapons are often stamped with a maker's mark and those made by famous weaponsmiths fetch additional money on the second-hand market.

Armoursmiths

Armoursmiths sell armour as listed on the Armor Table in the SRD. The kind of armour they make is suitable to the clientele that visit it. An armoursmith in a major city would stock for all body types, but others won't.

Gunsmiths

Gunsmiths can mostly be found in coastal areas. They sell firearms as listed in Firearms in the Player's Guide. They also sell small quantities of black powder.

Locksmiths

Locksmiths specialise in the creation of locks of all types and sizes. They also assist in the picking of locks so long as the need seems legitimate. They make their own lockpicks and the more shady locksmiths sell them under the counter. These count as Thieves' Tools as listed in the SRD.

Toolsmiths

Toolsmiths are only found in dwarven mines. They produce highly specialist tools of excellent quality. These can range from farming tools to medical implements and anything in-between. They are then shipped to eager buyers across Ataland. Dwarven made tools are considered to be well worth the extra expense.
